Reading Secondary

This course comprises two parts: reading factual and emotive writing and Embracing Literature.

In the first part, students are taught how to approach unseen texts, written in both the first and third person. Travel writing and the use of rhetorical techniques are explored in terms of their impact on readers. The course also allows students to examine the structure of extracts and how logically developed arguments are presented. Objective and subjective texts are also examined in great detail.

The second part, Embracing Literature, looks at different literature genres pre and post 20th century. This is an exciting course as it explores the writings of Dickens, Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde. It also looks at the characteristics of drama, prose and autobiography as well as the forms of mystery, science fiction and self-help books.
